AGENDA

12:00pm:  Registration and Pizza

12:15pm: Financing for Entrepreneurs and Startups

Do you need assistance with funding in order to be competitive and/or expand your business venture? This presentation by Roslyn Goldmacher will provide valuable advice on how to access government resources available to small business and startups on Long Island.

Roslyn D. Goldmacher is an attorney and entrepreneur who ran her own boutique law firm here on LI specializing in representation of credit unions and non bank commercial lenders. While still running her law firm, Roz founded the Long Island Development Corporation family of not for profit economic development organizations- now a 36 year old economic development entity providing low cost loans, free technical assistance and seminars to small businesses in our region. LIDC has lent over 4 billion dollars to Long Island entrepreneurs and leveraged another 12 billion in funding for them, in the process helping to create and retain over 65,000 jobs for our economy.

1:00pm Lessons Learned for Entrepreneurs

There are numerous pitfalls that you may face when starting your own company. You can avoid many of these by engaging in conversation with three savvy (and scarred) entrepreneurs, who will candidly discuss what they learned along the way as they launched their own companies. They are:

Peter Curtis is President and CEO of PMC Group, an Engineering, Research and Technology Company he founded in 1998. He has been at the forefront of developing new technology innovations for products such as M.C. Access, GreenBUS, and SmartWALK along with the development of education content/LMS all to reduce human error and improve energy security for the Digital Society. With over thirty years of experience in the mission critical engineering industry, he has worked for Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank, Securities Industry Automation Co. (SIAC), the Suffolk County Water Authority, and Sperry Corporation.

Mitch Maiman, President, IPS has more than 30 years of experience in successful product development. Along with co-founder, Paul Severino,  Mitch has built a large, multi-functional product development team serving several tier one clients including Motorola, L3 Communications, Pepsi, Google, Verizon and Danaher Corporation as well as numerous smaller clients. His present role followed a long, successful career at Symbol Technologies where he served as VP of Engineering for a large, highly profitable business unit as well as an Advanced Development organization.

Thomas VanLaan, Founder/CEO of CloudCalc, Inc.  Thirty years after launching his first startup, Tom finds himself back in the garage with his current tech startup, Houston, TX-based CloudCalc, Inc.www.cloudcalc.com which aims to bring engineering software to the cloud.  In the intervening years, Tom has been a successful entrepreneur (with exits to both private equity and strategic acquirers), an investor in over 40 startups, plus a mentor to several more.
